thanks, that what everybody says but I sit there and the minute I press 'record' the closed captions go off the screen and I cannot turn them back on. the recorded product comes onto usb without.
i am using all the old red/white/blue connectors.
it is a waste of money and too late to take back if it wont do this.

Should not be any reason why it won't as another DSE model that I have does. Just make sure that you have selected subtitles before taping.

This unit will only record to FAT32 formatted drives. If your hard drive is formatted for NTFS - which most are - the STB will not "see" it and will not record to it.

Question
EPG date not correct for Adelaide
When I adjusted the time for South Australia (GMT +10.5) which gave the correct Adelaide time & date, the EPG shows the wrong day (it's always tomorrow's programs & dates/times). This may be an issue with the daylight savings time starting earlier than it used to? If I change the date back to (GMT +9.5) then it shows the current days programs & date, but the time is out by an hour. Have you got a fix (software/firmware) or instructions to fix this issue.

Further to previous detail, I have checked all the GMT settings for all the states, and only the +10.5 is out by 11 hours. +10 is a half hour out, as is +11 the other way. This means, that there is a definite bug with the +10.5 setting ... no way around that. Currently I have to leave the set top box on +9.5 and adjust my record calculations by an hour for each recording (as per the EPG), which as you can imagine is painful ... and apt to be forgotten or an error occur by mistake. Hopefully the firmware patch will be released anytime now?

Mine shows correct time to our region - almost.

I have adjusted to Greenwich Mean Time +11 hours for NSW DST. From what I can see, there is no manual adjustment, because MANUAL means you have choices of '+' or '-' Greenwich Means Time - not AUTOMATIC - which does + 10 hrs I found. lol.

Question
Is there a .pdf of the manual for the DSE HD STB Recorder GH5930?
The supplied user guide is incomplete and the print is too small. Either an online site to more info or the manual, or could you email the .pdf to me.

Is there a software update for the GH5930?

Thanks

According to dse technical support, you need to email the following address to recieve firmware updates - computersupport@dse.com.au
I have just sent such an email, it's a little annoying they don't have part of their website dedicated to firmware updates, as it is I'll have to periodically email them just to find out if there is a new one available. I presented this to them in the email I sent, hopefully they will address the issue. Obviously at the moment we have no way of knowing if there is a later version than the one installed on our machines. Tech support did tell me any of the GH5930 models sold around xmas and beyond are likely to have the latest firmware. Hope this helps.
Sorry, I'm not sure if there is a pdf of the user manual, I assume you have googled the net already. I did quickly and couldn't find one. If you've lost yours and can't find another let me know I'll try to scan mine for you.

Yes, this is quite clearly described in the instructions.
You get a choice of once, daily or weekly, and you can also set it manually like a VCR timer.

Yes!. I ended up buying this box and you can call up the EPG and hit OK which takes you to the scheduled recording screen with all info filled in.

This varies with the program content, but it's about 4GB/hr for HD, about 2GB/hr for the SD main network channels and somewhere between 1-2GB/hr for the network sub-channels, depending on how low a quality the network think tey can get away with!
